Dry Eye

Relief for eyes that ache, itch, and just won't stop bothering you.

Symptoms to watch for

When Your Eyes Are Trying to Tell You Something

Dry eye is one of the most common conditions we treat. It occurs when your eyes aren’t producing enough tears, or when the chemical composition of those tears is off — leaving them dry, irritated, and uncomfortable. Left untreated, it can progress from an annoyance to a more serious problem.

Itching or redness
A gritty or sandy feeling in the eye
Pain or burning
Dry spots on the surface of the eye
Increased sensitivity to light

How we diagnose it

Finding the Source of Your Discomfort

Dr. Manguikian diagnoses dry eye through a thorough evaluation of your eyes and tear production, using a Schirmer tear test to measure how well your eyes are producing tears.

How we treat it

Personalized Treatment Options

Dry eye treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Dr. Manguikian will evaluate the underlying causes of your symptoms and recommend a personalized treatment plan based on your lifestyle, overall eye health, and the severity of your condition.

We typically start with non-surgical approaches:

✓ Blinking exercises
✓ Increasing humidity at home or work
✓ Artificial tears or moisturizing ointment
✓ Dietary changes such as adding omega-3 fatty acids
✓ Avoiding triggers like air conditioning, wind, smoke, and certain allergy or cold medications

If non-surgical methods aren’t providing enough relief, surgical options are available: punctal plugs, punctal cautery, or eyelid surgery if an eyelid condition is contributing.

Dr. Manguikian will work closely with you to find the approach that brings lasting relief. For many patients, effective treatment can significantly improve comfort, reduce irritation, and make everyday activities like reading, driving, and using screens more enjoyable.
