Dertad Manguikian, M.D.

Dr. Dertad Manguikian was the Founder of Fairfax Eye Associates, established in 1975. As an Ophthalmologist, Dr. Manguikian dedicated his life to the restoration and preservation of vision. He performed over 20,000 ophthalmic surgeries during his career and was known by his patients and the community as a talented, compassionate, and family oriented physician. He was a pioneer in bringing modern phacoemulsification cataract surgery to the Northern Virginia area. Dr. Manguikian, sadly, passed away on November 17, 2023. His professional life's work is carried on by his son Alex. Please see the attached obituary celebrating Dertad's life.

Dad, I am grateful for all you gave and taught me. Everyday I go to work, your patients are there to me support me in carrying on your mission. It is an honor to be your son and an honor to carry on your work. I miss you Dad.

Alex D. Manguikian, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Alex Manguikian joined Fairfax Eye Associates in July 2013. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his medical internship performed jointly at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Inova Fairfax Hospital, in Falls Church, Virginia. Dr. Manguikian performed his ophthalmology residency training at the Flaum Eye Institute of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
